Falkenberg-Halmstad

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Landinfra is planning the establishment of an offshore wind farm off the coast of Halland, within the municipalities of both Falkenberg and Halmstad.

Landinfra intends to apply for a permit for the establishment of an offshore wind farm within Sweden’s exclusive economic zone and within the territorial waters. The investigation area for the planned wind farm covers approximately 360 square kilometers and is primarily located in waters belonging to the municipalities of Falkenberg and Halmstad.

The wind farm is estimated to have a total installed capacity of up to 1,210 MW, distributed across 55–80 wind turbines.

A wind farm of this size could result in an annual electricity production of up to approximately 6 TWh. This amount of renewable electricity could not only ensure local power supply for upcoming electrification but also open opportunities for local production of hydrogen and/or e-methanol – renewable energy carriers that could help local industries or the maritime and aviation sectors phase out their fossil fuels.

The company has been working on the project since the spring of 2023 and has since conducted location studies, early stakeholder dialogues, feasibility studies, and project evaluations. Falkenberg-Halmstad is one of the projects in the company’s portfolio of offshore wind projects that are deemed to have the best potential for offshore wind power. Therefore, Landinfra has now decided to move forward with the project and initiate the formal permit process by starting scoping consultations for an upcoming permit application.

Consultations for the planned operations will take place during the fall and winter of 2024/2025, and will be conducted with the County Administrative Board, the municipalities of Falkenberg and Halmstad, as well as individuals expected to be particularly affected. Consultations will also be held with other government agencies, associations, organizations, and the general public expected to be affected by the project or action.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE PROJECT

In the fall of 2024, Landinfra will begin the consultation process with the County Administrative Board and the concerned municipalities. The consultation will then continue with other government agencies, associations, organizations, and individuals likely to be particularly affected by the project. Public consultations are planned for the winter of 2024/2025.
