Slite

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Landinfra is planning to establish an offshore wind farm off the coast of Gotland.

Landinfra intends to apply for a permit to establish the wind farm within Sweden’s territorial waters. The investigation area for the planned wind farm covers approximately 690 square kilometers, entirely within the water boundaries of Region Gotland. The wind farm is expected to have a total installed capacity of up to 770 MW, distributed across 35 to 51 wind turbines. A wind farm of this size could generate up to 3.6 TWh of renewable electricity annually. This amount of renewable energy could not only secure local electricity supply for future electrification but also enable local production of hydrogen and/or e-methanol – renewable energy carriers that could help local industries or the maritime and aviation sectors phase out fossil fuels. The company has been working on the project since the spring of 2023, conducting location studies, early stakeholder dialogues, feasibility studies, and project evaluations.

The Slite wind farm is one of the projects in the company’s portfolio of offshore wind projects deemed to have the best potential for offshore wind development. Therefore, Landinfra has chosen to proceed with the project and initiate the formal permitting process by launching the scoping consultation for the upcoming permit application.

Consultations regarding the planned operations will take place during the fall and winter of 2024/2025, involving the County Administrative Board, Region Gotland, and individuals likely to be particularly affected. Consultations will also be held with other government authorities, associations, organizations, and the public who may be affected by the project or its operations.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE PROJECT

In the fall of 2024, Landinfra will begin the consultation process with the County Administrative Board and Region Gotland. The consultation will then continue with other government authorities, associations, organizations, and individuals who may be particularly affected by the project. Public consultations are planned for the winter of 2024/2025.
